Ugu Bigyan's Secret Pottery Garden: The Food

Mini Huts

We made reservations before going to Ugu Bigyan's Garden and Restaurant. We thought we won't be able to have lunch there since a minimum of 5 persons was required according to blogs we've read. Fortunately, he was kind enough to entertain us, even if it's just the two of us. :)

Saying our graces before the meal

We were seated at the kubo at the back. It was an al fresco dining expereince, with matching soothing background music, a bit of rain, and the sound of chimes handmade by Ugu himself.

After saying our graces, we then feasted on such delectable dishes! ^_^

Made from clay

The food served were all very enticing and scrumptious! Some we've never tried before, others - better versions! We were given 9 different dishes -- what a full, heavy lunch! Haha! :D

SOUP

Soup

The soup, served in handmade pottery, was warm, tasty and perfect for the rainy weather. It had bits of chicken, onion leaks, pork and was just so filling. It was the perfect start to our late lunch.

APPETIZERS

Pako (Fern Salad)

We thought we wouldn't like this very much -- too much greens. Hehe! But surprisingly, we enjoyed it! It had pako, tomatoes, crunchy green apples and a sweet and tangy kalamansi based dressing which we loved! It was refreshing and healthy too! Perfect for vegetarians! :p

Calamares

The squid rings were big, juicy and had crisp, flavorful coating. The sweet and sour sauce that came with it was great! This appetizer was definitely a hit for us! :)

MAIN COURSE

Kulawo (Banana Palm Heart)

It was smokey, a little tangy and the puso ng saging was flavorful and soft. It was a delicious dish but we weren't able to finish the heap of a serving. Hehe! :p

Tahong

The amount of tahong here is overwhelming. Haha! :D We had to eat this last since we were so hungry and we don't like to have bad tummies after munching in these on empty stomachs. After we've had some of the other delectable viands, we gave the tahong a go! They were so tender, chewy and simply yummy! :p

Sauteed Shrimps

The shrimps were juicy, plump and infused with a strong, tasty flavor. There were just only a few pieces so we were left wanting more! :p

Sweet and Sour Maya-Maya with Mango Sauce

The fish was soft, cooked just right and the mango sauce was divine! (we love mango so we'd be a little biased here. Hehe!) It was the perfect mix of salty, sweet, sour and tangy! Heaven in big bites! :D

Barbecued Spareribs

This was one spectacular dish! The meat was so soft that it easily fell of the bone. It can be compared to the ribs from Racks! The barbecue sauce was perfect for us - smokey, earthy, had a strong flavor which we really liked!

We had all these with rice, also served on a big hand-crafted clay bowl and fresh buko juice. :)

DESSERT

Ginataang Gabi

This truly Pinoy dessert was awesome! It brought back childhood memories from when our lolas cooked this for us for merienda. Too ad we weren't able to finish the whole thing since we're already sooo full! It was a very nice conclusion to our hearty meal. :)

DINING EXPERIENCE

Happy, pleased, satisfied

The set meal cost 500 per head which is not bad considering the variety of dishes served and the taste! All looked appealing and tasted even better! We thought we'd be done in a few minutes since we were really hungry but there were a lot to finish! We happily ate for about an hour, feeling so full and satiated! :)
